Troubleshooting
Common TrayJuice issues and how to fix them (v0.2.7).
Device does not appear in TrayJuice
- Confirm the device is connected in Windows Settings → Bluetooth.
- Check the exact friendly name in Bluetooth settings or Device Manager.
- The name must contain:
lemokey|keychron|naga|razer— see Supported Devices. - Click Refresh in the main window (or Refresh Battery in the tray).
- Wait for one full poll cycle (default 30 seconds) if you just powered the device on.
If the name has no keyword (e.g. only “Q1 Max”), TrayJuice cannot find it with the current search list.
Windows shows battery % but TrayJuice does not
Often Windows uses a path TrayJuice does not read (common with some classic Bluetooth audio devices). TrayJuice reads a specific PnP battery property on matching BLE-style entries.
Checklist:
- Name matches a keyword
- Device is Status OK in PnP
- Not only “paired but off”
Wrong device is primary / tray icon
Automatic mode picks the connected supported device with the lowest battery %.
Manual pin: open Devices → select the device → Set as Primary.
Return to auto: choose Automatic (lowest battery) again.
No connection toast when a device connects
- Settings → ensure Show notifications is enabled.
- Allow TrayJuice in Windows Settings → System → Notifications.
- Click Refresh after the device connects (v0.2.7: main Refresh uses the same path as tray Refresh Battery).
- First poll after launch may toast devices that are already present.
Low-battery notifications never appear
Alerts fire only when a device crosses a threshold downward:
20% → 15% → 10% → 5%
Sitting already below 20% at launch may not re-fire until the level rises above a threshold and crosses down again.
Refresh seems stuck / button stays green briefly
Normal while a PowerShell query runs. Overlapping refreshes are skipped. Wait for the current cycle to finish.
Auto-start not matching the Settings checkbox
The Windows registry is the source of truth when Settings opens.
- Toggle Auto-start
- Click Save Settings
- Reopen Settings to confirm sync
Debug console
- Settings → enable Debug mode → Save Settings (console should open)
- Or: tray menu → Debug Console
- Use Refresh in the debug window and copy relevant log lines into the bug report form
Settings location
%APPDATA%\trayjuice\settings.json
Corrupted settings? Quit TrayJuice → rename or delete settings.json → restart (defaults apply).
