Docs — Getting started

New User Guide

Install, first run, tray, devices, and settings.

What you need

  • Windows 10 or 11
  • A supported Bluetooth device already paired in Windows
  • TrayJuice installer
Important: Battery monitoring is Windows-only. Readings require PowerShell PnP.

Install and first launch

  1. Install TrayJuice.
  2. On first start, TrayJuice usually goes straight to the system tray (near the clock).
  3. Double-click the tray icon (or use Show Window in the tray menu) to open the main window.

Tip: If you do not see the icon, check the hidden tray overflow (^) area.

How TrayJuice finds devices

On each refresh (automatic or manual), TrayJuice:

  1. Asks Windows for PnP devices that are Status OK
  2. Keeps names containing your search keywords (defaults: lemokey | keychron | naga | razer — case-insensitive)
  3. Keeps only devices that report a battery % and show as connected
  4. Updates the tray icon, main window, and optional notifications

If the Windows name does not contain one of your keywords, TrayJuice will not list the device. Add keywords in Settings → Battery Monitoring → Edit list… (v0.2.9+).

Edit device keywords (v0.2.9+)

Settings → Battery Monitoring → Edit list… lets you add or remove the Windows device-name keywords TrayJuice searches for.

  • Save applies immediately
  • Names allow letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens, and underscores only
  • A warning appears when you add a 5th name (more names can make updates slower)
  • Search (under Remove) lists Bluetooth devices Windows already exposes a battery % for — use those friendly names when choosing keywords
  • Search opens a dedicated Device Search window (Clear / Copy / Refresh and PowerShell debug tools); live battery/settings/UPDATE logs stay in the Debug Console

About → Device Support shows your current keywords. The first time you open the main window from the tray, a tip explains Edit list… and Search.

Main window (quick tour)

Control What it does
Refresh Runs a live battery check now (same path as tray “Refresh Battery”)
Devices Opens Devices modal — connected supported devices, Set as Primary
Settings Interval, notifications, auto-start, debug mode, log level, Edit list… (device keywords)
Panels Primary device summary and up to 3 stacked battery indicators

Window size is fixed at 555 × 720. Close (×) minimizes to tray by default (unless turned off in Settings).

System tray

  • Icon — shows the PRIMARY device battery
  • Tooltip — summarizes one or more devices
  • Menu — right-click for Show Window, Check for Updates, Refresh Battery, Debug Console, Minimize to Tray, Exit

Exit from the tray quits the app completely.

Primary device (v0.2.6+)

Automatic (default) — primary = connected supported device with the lowest battery %.

Manual — open Devices → select a row (or Automatic) → Set as Primary.

Primary drives the tray icon, tooltip wording (primary:), and the highlighted battery panel card.

Settings worth knowing

Stored at: %APPDATA%\trayjuice\settings.json

Setting Default / notes
Update interval 30 seconds (options: 5s to 5 minutes)
Show notifications Connection + low-battery toasts
Auto-start with Windows Off (synced with registry when Settings opens)
Minimize to tray On (close hides instead of quitting)
Debug mode Off (Save Settings opens console when checked)
Edit list… (v0.2.9+) Device-name keywords TrayJuice searches for; Search finds Bluetooth devices with a battery %

Notifications (v0.2.6+)

Low battery (per device, only when crossing downward):

  • 20% — warning
  • 15% — warning
  • 10% — warning
  • 5% — critical (“Please charge your device”)

Connection — “{DeviceName} connected” / “disconnected”, or a batch summary if several change at once.

Click a toast to open the main window.

Updates (v0.2.8)

Shortly after startup, TrayJuice can silently check for a newer build on r34persoft.tech. If one is available, a simple Later / Download prompt may appear.

You can also check anytime: tray menu or About → Check for Updates. That opens the TrayJuice Update window (checking → new version / you’re up to date / could not check).

Download opens your browser to the installer page — TrayJuice never auto-installs. No personal data is sent; only a public version file is read.

Everyday tips

  1. Pair the keyboard/mouse in Windows Settings → Bluetooth first.
  2. Confirm the exact name in Device Manager or Bluetooth settings. If it lacks a keyword, add one via Settings → Edit list… (or use Search there).
  3. Use Refresh after powering a device on.
  4. Keep notifications enabled for connect/disconnect and low-battery alerts.
  5. For stubborn issues: enable Debug mode → Save Settings → copy relevant log lines into the bug report form.
